With the purpose of securing the supply of gasoline for Mexico City’s metropolitan area –a very densely populated zone where important economic, industrial and services activities take place– and to supply basic raw materials and components to the Tula Refinery, Pemex Refinación decided to increase the storage capacity of the Tuxpan Maritime Terminal by erecting five new storage tanks with a 100 000 barrel capacity each.
CGAL built the tanks (TV-112, 113, 114, 115 and 116), which were joined to the existing storage systems of basic and processed products from the current blending procedure, and to the single-buoy mooring reception and transfer service.
CGAL was responsible for a substantive part of the project, from designing basic and detailed engineering, to supplying, erecting and testing the five vertical, cylindrical tanks, the nominal diameter of which is 133.86 ft, with a 561 467.87 ft3 capacity. This great project guarantees the supply of fuels, such as gasoline and diesel, to the country’s central zone, which demands more than 40% of the refined products that Mexico consumes, and allows savings and the availability of fuels, even during hurricanes and bad weather, when the storage ships have to withdraw from the Gulf of Mexico.
