Work consists in the replacement of the rail bed and will end with the construction of the new Matamoros-Brownsville International Railway Bridge, western alternative. The site is found along the right detour of the Matamoros-Reynosa Highway, on kilometer 10+000, continuing on a northwesterly heading to the crossing point on the Rio Grande. In this way, the railway bypass includes the construction of the roadbeds, structures, drainage and subdrainage works, complementary works, paving, building and signalization from Matamoros to Brownsville, with a length of 6.77 mi, as well as a maneuvering and cargo classification yard, where 12.42 mi of railways were laid, distributed among several rail combs.
The main objective of the project is to benefit local transit and improve the speed of railroad operations, increasing socioeconomic development and the competitiveness of the border zone, as well a guaranteeing interconnection between ports, borders and metropolitan areas.
