This project consisted in a 16.4 ft-transversal and 1 246.72 ft-longitudinal expansion of runway 06-24 (8 759.84 ft length and 147.64 ft width), as well as its rehabilitation and that of the taxiway Alfa, main platform, edges, safety areas and electromechanical work.
The rehabilitation of the platform and runway involved the change from asphalt to hydraulic concrete, with a 48 modulus rupture value, allowing a lifespan of over 25 years without the need of major maintenance. It must be noted that the Military Base No. 42A, Santa Gertrudis, is the largest in the country, housing the facilities of the Air Force, the National Military Training School and horse breeding and training facilities for the armed forces.
